2003 Act XCIII on the Day of Hungarian Science
The National Assembly considers the role of science in society to be of outstanding importance, and the activity carried out for the cultivation and development of science to be worthy of recognition and exceptional support. It trusts that Hungary’s accession to the European Union will enhance the already successful contribution of Hungarian researchers and scientists to the growth of humanity’s knowledge and understanding. It pays tribute to our predecessors who contributed to the development of Hungarian science. Therefore, it enacts the following law:1. § The National Assembly declares November 3—the day on which, in 1825, István Széchenyi offered one year’s income from his estates for the purpose of founding the Hungarian Learned Society, thereby making possible the establishment of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences—as the Day of Hungarian Science.
2. § This law shall enter into force on the day of its promulgation.
Day of Hungarian Science 2026 Central opening of Obuda University
As part of the Day of Hungarian Science 2026 event series, Obuda University welcomes interested participants between 03–23 November 2026 with numerous scientific conferences, professional workshops, and outreach programs. The events presenting the latest results of engineering, information technology, natural sciences, pedagogy, and innovation research provide an opportunity for scientific dialogue and cooperation among domestic and international researchers, educators, industry professionals, and students.<br><br>The celebration is not limited to a single day; at Obuda University, a month-long event series is built around it. The aim of the series is to promote the importance of science and research in Hungary, to present the results of Hungarian scientific research, and to make the significance of science and research in education, as well as the importance of education in science and research, understandable to everyone.
